FAQs

Who are Knabusch and Shoemaker?

Edward M. Knabusch and Edward J. Shoemaker were the founders of the La-Z-Boy company in 1927. The naming of the Home Furnishings and Design School on the campus of High Point University is intended to recognize the lives and achievements of these two furniture giants.

Why is the building called Norton Hall?

The building was named Norton Hall in honor of Patrick
H. Norton, the former Chairman of La-Z-Boy and the first Department Chairman for the Knabusch Shoemaker International School of Home Furnishings and Design.

What makes the building unique?

There is so much!

The Knabusch Shoemaker International School of Home Furnishings and Design was established in 2002 through gifts from Mr. Patrick H. Norton (Chairman, La-Z-Boy, Inc.); friends and family of both Mr. Edward M. Knabusch and Mr. Edward J. Shoemaker; and by employees and friends of the La-Z-Boy organization. Their generous gifts led to the expansion and enrichment of High Point University's furniture program that began in 1978.
