HPU students enter world of design at national convention

Twenty-one High Point University Interior Design students and three faculty ventured all the way to Baltimore on Oct. 29-31 for the annual NeoCon East Convention.

Accompanying the students on the trip were Professors Steve Huff, Jess Sisk and Cathy Nowicki. The High Point University students were invited to participate in the Student Series, a free day of activities geared specifically to interior design and architecture students from the Mid-Atlantic region. They enjoyed hearing keynote speakers, networking with industry professionals and viewing hundreds of products from more than 250 of industry's top manufacturers.

Hooker Furniture hosts Home Furnishings Retailing Class

Students in Dr. Richard Bennington's Home Furnishings Retailing class were invited to visit the International Home Furnishings Center and participate in Hooker Furniture Company's "Design Meetings."

The students gave their input and opinions on what they liked or disliked about Hooker's proposed product introductions. Through this exciting and interactive experience, the student were able to learn first-hand about product design and the merchandising process. In addition, the students helped Hooker Furniture learn what merchandise appeals to young adults, who are part of a key target consumer group for the furniture industry today.
